Council legal

Terms of Use

Effective May 19, 2026. These terms cover Council access, subscriptions, AI outputs, and responsible use limits.

This page is written for clarity, not ceremony. If anything here materially changes for paid users, we will provide notice where required.

1. Who We Are

Council is operated by Squire Incorporated. These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of Council, including our website, waitlist, mobile app, subscriptions, and related services.

By using Council, creating an account, joining the waitlist, starting a trial, or purchasing a subscription, you agree to these Terms.

2. What Council Does

Council helps you think through decisions by comparing multiple AI-generated perspectives, surfacing tradeoffs, and producing a structured verdict.

Council is decision-support software. It does not provide legal, medical, financial, mental health, emergency, or other professional advice. You remain responsible for your decisions and should consult qualified professionals where appropriate.

3. Accounts and Eligibility

You must provide accurate account information and keep your account secure. You are responsible for activity that occurs through your account.

Council is intended for users who are old enough to enter into a binding agreement in their jurisdiction. If you use Council on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization.

4. Subscriptions, Trials, and Billing

Council may offer paid subscriptions, free trials, introductory offers, or other purchase options. The purchase screen will show the trial duration, renewal price, billing period, and cancellation terms before you confirm a purchase.

If you purchase through Apple's App Store, Apple handles payment, renewal, cancellation, refunds, and related billing support under Apple's terms and policies. You can manage or cancel App Store subscriptions through your Apple account settings.

Unless cancelled before the end of a trial or current billing period, subscriptions may renew automatically at the displayed price and billing interval.

5. Responsible Use and Service Limits

Council subscriptions are intended for ordinary personal use. We do not currently present fixed usage credits or quotas to users, but we may monitor usage internally to maintain service reliability, prevent abuse, and manage unusually high automated or excessive usage.

We may apply reasonable safeguards, including temporary rate limits, request queues, abuse prevention checks, model routing changes, or other technical limits if usage materially exceeds normal personal use, threatens service reliability, violates these Terms, or creates security, legal, or operational risk.

If we introduce explicit plan limits in the future, we will provide reasonable notice where required and apply those limits prospectively, except where immediate action is needed for abuse, security, illegal activity, or service protection.

6. Acceptable Use

You may not use Council to break the law, harm others, infringe rights, interfere with the service, scrape or resell the service, bypass technical limits, reverse engineer non-public systems, or submit content that you do not have the right to use.

You may not use automated systems to generate excessive requests or use Council in a way that degrades the service for other users.

7. Your Content

You retain ownership of the questions, notes, context, and other content you submit to Council. You grant us the rights needed to operate, secure, improve, and provide the service, including generating and displaying AI outputs for you.

You are responsible for the content you submit and for ensuring that you have the right to submit it.

8. AI Outputs

AI outputs can be incomplete, inaccurate, outdated, or inappropriate for your situation. Council is designed to help you reason, not to replace your judgment.

You should independently verify important information before relying on it, especially where the decision involves safety, health, legal rights, money, employment, housing, immigration, or other high-stakes matters.

9. Privacy

Our handling of personal information is described in our Privacy Policy at https://www.get-council.com/privacy.

We may use operational telemetry, usage metrics, app event measurement, advertising attribution, and conversion measurement to keep Council reliable, understand product performance, prevent abuse, measure campaigns, optimize permitted advertising, and improve the service.

When Apple or applicable law requires a permission or consent choice for tracking, advertising cookies, or similar technologies, Council's use of those advertising measurement tools is subject to that choice. You do not need to allow app tracking to use the paid service.

10. Marketing, Advertising, and Third-Party Platforms

If you join the waitlist, purchase early access, or interact with Council through an advertising campaign, you must provide your own accurate information and may not submit another person's personal information unless you have authority to do so.

Council may use third-party advertising, attribution, analytics, paywall, subscription, email, and payment providers, including Meta, Google, Mixpanel, Superwall, Apple, and Stripe, as described in the Privacy Policy. Your use of Facebook, Instagram, Google, YouTube, App Store, payment, or other third-party platforms is governed by those providers' own terms and privacy policies.

Advertising measurement and campaign optimization may use app event, waitlist, checkout, subscription, purchase, campaign, device, browser, account identifier, or contact matching data where permitted. Council does not use your private decision questions, notes, options, or AI verdicts to build ad audiences.

Council does not provide legal, medical, financial, mental health, emergency, or other professional advice, and advertising or campaign materials do not change that limitation.

11. Changes to the Service or Terms

We may change Council over time, including features, models, pricing, plans, limits, and availability. If a change materially affects your rights or paid access, we will provide notice where required.

We may update these Terms from time to time. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.

12. Termination

You may stop using Council at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms, create risk for the service or other users, or use Council unlawfully.

Sections that by their nature should survive termination will continue to apply, including payment obligations, responsible use, disclaimers, limitations of liability, and dispute terms.

13. Disclaimers and Liability

Council is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and uninterrupted or error-free operation.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Squire Incorporated will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or lost opportunities arising from your use of Council.
